10 Principles in Practice
Radical Inclusion – This event welcomes everyone, no previous experience is needed, and we welcome all ages.
Gifting – Props are provided, helping to maintain a culture of generosity.
Decommodification – The event is focused on shared experiences rather than commercial transactions, reinforcing the spirit of participation over consumption. These spin jams are free, and no money will be exchanged.
Radical Self-reliance – Participants are encouraged to explore movement and expression independently, building confidence in their abilities.
Radical Self-expression – Flow arts and fire dancing has always been a personal or collaborative gift in the Burning Man community; in 1991 the Fire Conclave was started by Crimson Rose and remains a ritual before the man burns.
Communal Effort – The event thrives on collaboration, with participants engaging in shared activities that strengthen social bonds.
Civic Responsibility – Safety measures, including fire safety classes, help ensure responsible participation and respect for public spaces.
Leaving No Trace – This community event is responsible for ensuring nothing is left behind in the dance studio.
Participation – Attendees actively engage in the experience.
Immediacy – The body-mind connection that flow arts provide emphasizes being present in the moment, often referred to as the “flow” (meditative-like) state.
